Topic Design announced today that Kristen Whaley, designer, has accepted a position as an adjunct professor for the 2014 fall semester in the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). Whaley will continue to work at Topic, in addition to teaching.
“Topic is extremely pleased Kristen is teaching design students at the world renowned University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning,” said Deanna Hengge, client service director and partner at Topic. “Kristen has shown enormous leadership so early in her career, especially in giving back to the design industry.”
Whaley is teaching Print Design 1, an intermediate class for fourth year design students at UC. Whaley will instruct students who have finished their foundation and methodology classes, and are ready to apply what they have learned to a real world project. The final project will be a printed guidebook on the subject of the student’s choosing.
“I'm honored and excited to be teaching at DAAP, and to be able to give back and inspire future students like my professors did for me,” said Whaley. “I have a great group of students who are passionate about their projects and willing to be pushed outside of their comfort zones. I’m looking forward to the rest of the semester!”
Whaley joined Topic in August 2012. Her work with clients includes, most notably, Great Parks of Hamilton County, Dewey’s Pizza and LifeCenter Organ Donor Network.
“We’re extremely proud and supportive of Kristen during this journey in her career,” said Chris Witham, partner and managing director at Topic. “She is a fun, creative, passionate and talented graphic designer, and her students should be happy to have her.”
Whaley is a 2012 graduate of Miami University, and holds a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in Marketing. In addition to her design work at Topic, she is also the Student Engagement Chair of AIGA Cincinnati.
